WAAH! Accelerator

A next generation
Denmark-Switzerland-Netherlands-India collaboration focused on innovation in One Health

Our vision

A world where we improve the lives of all species—human and animal—through the integration of human medicine, veterinary medicine, and environmental science. We promote collaboration between the Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands and India in One Health, by strengthening the scientific, technological, and innovation leadership position of both the Netherlands and India in order to address key challenges in One Health.

The India brench of the WAAH Accelerator is housed at Centre for Cellular And Molecular Platforms in Bangalore India. International partners include AMR-Global and Swissnex.

Our 3 priority areas

We aim to deliver innovations in the fight against AMR, and with a large societal, environmental, and economical impact potential

What is One Health?

‘One Health’ is an integrated, unifying approach to balance and optimize the health of people, animals and the environment. It is particularly important to prevent, predict, detect, and respond to global health threats.

The approach mobilizes multiple sectors, disciplines and communities at varying levels of society to work together. This way, new and better ideas are developed that address root causes and create long-term, sustainable solutions.

WAAH in Hindi means “wow”. The WAAH Accelerator is part of the Dutch-India WAAH agenda, which focussed on One Health challenges in the areas of Water, Animal, Agriculture and Health (hence WAAH!)

The WAAH! Accelerator will have a role in mitigating the impact of human activity on the environment and wildlife habitats, and how this drives disease threats.

Critical areas include innovations that focus on food production and distribution, urbanization and infrastructure development, international travel and trade, activities that lead to biodiversity loss and climate change, and those that put increased pressure on the natural resource base – all of which can lead to the emergence of zoonotic diseases.

Better health outcomes for people, animals, plants, and our environment

Prevention of Antimicrobial-resistance which can quickly spread through communities, the food supply, healthcare facilities, and the environment (soil, water)

Prevention of Vector-borne diseases are on the rise with warmer temperatures and expanded mosquito and tick habitats

Safety in food animals as diseases can threaten supplies, livelihoods, and economies

Clean environment to ensure safe water for drinking and recreation

We are looking for partners

WAAH! Accelerator is presently looking for partners from the industry that can fund and support the accelerator to become sustainable in the long term.

The WAAH! Accelerator is open to partners from the industry and institutions that link their respective value chains from the Biotech, AgriTech, HealthTech and CleanTech industries.
